ICON GROWTH: BUNNIES
Bunnies have appeared as an emerging icon and not just because we’re close to the Easter holiday. While there were clear items and art intended to cater to the holiday at NSS,
it was just as clear that the furry little animal with floppy ears is rising as an icon and intended as an everyday icon. The art appeared in many different formats including hand drawn and watercolor and caters to all ages. From cartoon-like for kids to more sophisticated pencil-sketched and painted versions for the adult. Items include paper and stationery, bath & body, entertaining, wall art, home accessories, pillows, tabletop, trinket trays, and gift-giving. Perhaps the Bunny is intended to be an animal icon for the Botanical theme given how often it was presented as a ‘garden bunny’ or to compliment the florals in the Bold Floral Brights trend. Interestingly enough, Bunnies are rising in the US as pets living in the home, like a cat or dog, and perhaps the growth of the icon is due to the affection one has with any furry family member.
