TREND GROWTH: BOTANICALS

The understated elegance of the Botanical theme is here in a BIG way and I believe is here to stay. This trend appeals to a much larger audience in terms of age and is shown in both masculine and feminine styles in a broad range of colors. From bright and happy, to green and natural, there is a palette and appeal in every customer base.

There is an earthy appeal to this trend and with succulent plants escalating in decor-both indoors and out, which l believe is in part due to the awareness of climate change and decline in the water supply this trend is in a rapid growth state.

TREND GROWTH: BOTANICALS

Examples of icons used in the Botanicals trend are leaves, florals, plants, vegetables, animals, and insects.These icons are often seen in a sketched, hand-drawn, or watercolor feel, resembling the items in their natural form. The palette varies, though the use of green is the most prominent base color. The subject of the art is often a recognizable and resembling the technical rendering of the natural state of the leaves, florals, animals, insects etc. With other trends using nature as the subject, the art is more abstract and unrecognizable to a specific species.

This trend compliments the widely popular Farmhouse trend and the custome can easily layer in these natural pieces to existing decor. The trend is wide-ranging in items from wall art, stationery, gift wrap, kitchen, gifts, candles, bath and body, packaging, pillows, and storage.

Botanicals in a pastel palette is widely popular in paper and stationery. The overall materials used range from paper, canvas, wood, ceramic, and fabric.

Foil accent is used sparingly in paper and was seen mostly as a subtle accent. There is a rise of natural paper, as opposed to flat, used in both stationery and wall art where you see more texture, which compliments the natural vibe of the trend

The Botanicals trend was impossible to miss at the fair. I couldn't walk 20 feet in any aisle without this treng prominently represented. I would recommend making this trend a feature in future collections. A year ago this trend was emerging in Europe and the US market was slow in representing this trend across all categories.though I strongly believe it will be widely adopted across all categories going forward in the US.
